Jimmie Guilfoyle

Jimmie Guilfoyle

I've dedicated my career to helping people in the Southern Indiana and Kentucky communities navigate their legal challenges. As a bankruptcy attorney, I work with both individuals and businesses, guiding them through Chapters 7, 11, and 13 proceedings. Before starting my own practice, I served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Basil H. Lorch at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, an experience that gave me valuable insight into how bankruptcy cases are evaluated from the court's perspective.

A significant part of my practice focuses on criminal defense, particularly felony cases. I understand that when someone comes to me with a criminal matter, they're putting their life and future in my hands. This is a responsibility I take very seriously. My experience with jury trials has taught me the importance of thorough preparation and aggressive advocacy – when someone's freedom is at stake, there can be no half measures.

I earned my law degree from the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville, where I focused on bankruptcy law. My legal education also included studying international business law at The Hague University, giving me a broader perspective that helps me think creatively about solutions for my clients.

When I'm not in the office, you'll likely find me in my woodworking shop or training for my next triathlon. Custom woodworking allows me to work with my hands and exercise creativity in a different way than law – there's something deeply satisfying about crafting something tangible from raw materials. Both woodworking and endurance sports have taught me the value of patience, persistence, and attention to detail – qualities I bring to every case I handle.

Licensed in both Indiana and Kentucky, I welcome the opportunity to sit down with you, listen to your concerns, and help you chart a path forward. Every situation is unique, and I'm committed to finding the approach that works best for you.

I've dedicated my career to helping people in Southern Indiana navigate their legal challenges. As a family law attorney, I work with individuals going through some of their most difficult life transitions, focusing on building solutions that reduce conflict and promote stability. I understand that family law matters affect what people value most - their children, their financial security, and their future. When cases can be resolved through agreement, I work diligently to craft solutions that serve my clients' long-term interests. When court intervention is necessary, I enter the courtroom meticulously prepared, serving as a calm and knowledgeable advocate for my clients.

Before co-founding Hutson Guilfoyle LLP, I served as a solo practitioner for over ten years, handling a wide range of legal matters including family law, civil litigation, business law, and appeals. During law school at Indiana University Maurer School of Law, I focused on serving disadvantaged clients through the Disability Law Clinic and Elder Law Clinic, work that earned me the "Law Clinics Award." I graduated *magna cum laude* in 2009 and was elected to the Order of the Coif, while also serving on the Federal Communications Law Journal and participating in the Sherman Minton Moot Court.

Outside of my legal practice, I've devoted fourteen years to the discipline of boxing. In 2023, I competed in an amateur master's boxing tournament, an experience I plan to repeat in the future. The sport has taught me valuable lessons about discipline, strategic thinking, and staying calm under pressure – qualities that translate directly to my legal practice.

Licensed in all state and federal courts in Indiana, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you, understand your situation, and help you develop a clear path forward. Every family's circumstances are unique, and I'm committed to finding an approach that addresses your specific needs and goals.
